Discovery Health in collaboration with En-novate has partnered to bring together leaders in healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship in the medical technology space in South Africa. En-novate is a South African based company with a global footprint with a very exciting and promising vision for entrepreneurs and corporates. En-novate’s strategy and focus are SMMEs and entrepreneurs that have expansion plans to become more competitive and relevant in rapidly growing global markets.
En-novate has been taking various groups to technologies hubs around the globe to seek out knowledge transfer, business best practices and latest cutting edge technologies. En-novate in collaboration with Discovery Health decided to make this happen with a medical technology focused trip bringing groups of business professionals and entrepreneurs to the leader in medical innovation, “The Start-Up Nation”, Israel.
Both Discovery Health and En-novate searched and called upon applications from all the leading digital health entrepreneurs, medical technologists, and med-tech disruptors to win a chance to visit Israel on a full expense paid trip to Israel to explore the latest and cutting edge developments in the med-tech sectors. Mr Elliot Sack from eHealthGroup was chosen as one of the twenty attendees to be able to join this once in a lifetime business experience. He was accompanied by various interesting stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem including heads from Discovery Health, Founders of SA tech companies HearX, Altis Biologics, Recomed and various other stakeholders on this first of it’s kind business and skills development trip.
Mr Sack was able to meet top medical tech firms in Israel including IBM (Watson), ReWalk (first FDA approved exoskeleton), UpNRide, and various other leading technologies. The group also were able to meet top Venture Capital and Private Equity Groups in Israel and pitch their ideas and concepts seeking funding for their ventures in South Africa. eHealthGroup was a very hot topic and business of interest to several VCs in Israel and Mr Elliot Sack was able to pitch his business and concepts involving telemedicine to some influential investors and learn about the funding processes involved in start-ups.
Another interesting event was the group was able to visit Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan outside of Tel Aviv which is ranked in the top ten hospitals in the world and the most advanced medical facility in the Middle East. Mr Elliot Sack was able to arrange a visit with Dr Klein who runs the Burn ICU unit at Sheba. Dr Klein was able to give the South African group live demonstrations of the InTouch Health telerobotic technology they are using throughout the hospital for remote patient monitoring and telemedicine services remotely.
This was one of the highlights of the trips and really gave the inspired and upcoming groups of med-tech entrepreneurs exposure to best practice, innovation and the future of healthcare to bring back to South Africa!
